Perhaps not the most tactful approach

So, at a meeting today my boss mentioned that I would be starting maternity leave next week and wished me well. Afterwards a colleague came up and said, "I didn't know you were pregnant. I thought that you were just getting fat." Umm yeah. You might want to leave that second part off the next time you encounter this situation. Fortunately I am not too easily offended and found it amusing. I made various colleagues laugh by passing on the remark (without identifying the person).

I suppose it's still a step up from when people ask a woman when she is due and she isn't actually pregant!

Hee. Probably is a step up yes. How's the ankle holding up by the way? No further problems?

Ankle is good now. Just took quite a while to settle. Glad it is better as I am encountering other aches and pains, some of which may possibly have been made worse by my fall.

Due at end of July so it is seeming very close now. Could be sooner of course depending on what bub decides to do. I was planning on working until a little later but I am more tired this time. Partly due to the pain from my pelvis and down my legs and partly because I can't rest when I get home because I have a toddler who wants attention and who I also want to spend some time with while he is awake. I have also been losing sleep because he has been teething and waking up during the night. I have been so tired that I was struggling to get my programming done - other people have helped me. I figured that seeing as I was lacking a brain there wasn't much benefit to my team in my staying any longer.

I heard someone say the same thing to a colleague who worked to 38 weeks. "I thought it was muffin gut!"

In my first year of marriage, a rumour went around the whole blindy community that i was pregnant, because I had put on a whole load of happy married fat. oh dear.
